Dan Kalafatas

Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board
With 3Degrees (Previously Part of 3 Phases) Since 2002

In graduate school at Stanford, Dan sat in on a speech delivered by T.J. Glautier, former Deputy Secretary and COO of the U.S. Department of Energy under the Clinton administration, that changed his life. It resonated so much it inspired him to dedicate his business talents towards playing a part in building the renewable energy sector in the United States to address climate change.

In 2007, Dan co-led the formation of 3Degrees with Steve McDougal, a spin-off of the 3 Phases Energy Services division Dan co-founded and ran from 2002 through 2007. Under Dan’s leadership as CEO (until January 2015), 3Degrees successfully entered the corporate and utility green power and carbon markets, and converted to a Certified B Corporation. Today, 3Degrees makes it possible for businesses to take urgent action on climate change by helping organizations around the world achieve renewable energy and decarbonization goals. Dan serves as Chairman of 3Degrees, focusing on the company’s long-term corporate strategy, strategic initiatives, and risk management.

A native of Maynard, MA, Dan lives with his wife and three launching children in Marin County. An investor in clean energy, Dan serves on the Advisory Board of the Dartmouth College Arthur L. Irving Institute for Energy and Society, Advisory Council of the Dartmouth Climate Collaborative, Governing Council of the Northern Sierra Partnership, which is dedicated to conserving the natural landscapes of the northern Sierra Nevada, and other community initiatives.
