David Dines was elected Corporate Senior Vice President and made a member of Cargill’s Executive team in November of 2015. He was named Chief Financial Officer of Cargill in December of 2018. David chaired Cargill’s Financial Risk Committee and was also a member of both Cargill’s Process, Data, and Technology Committee and Commodity Risk Committee.

Working globally across the food, agricultural, financial and industrial sectors, Cargill is the largest privately held company in the world with revenues of $160 billion. Cargill is over 155 years old with 160,000 employees in 70 countries.

As CFO, David was responsible for economic strategy and forecasting, financial performance, capital deployment, and reporting of enterprise financials. In addition, he oversaw the Treasury, Audit, Tax, FP&A and Accounting and Finance functions within the company.

David has long held global leadership positions at Cargill, beginning in 1994 when he helped launch a new business venture, Cargill Risk Management, a regulated financial swap dealer that provides customized risk management products to the global marketplace. In addition to serving as president of that business from 1999 to 2010 and again from 2017 to 2018, he led the Cargill Metals & Shipping enterprise as well as the Energy, Transportation & Metals and Financial Services platforms. During a portion of this time, David was based in Geneva, Switzerland. He has held leadership positions in large scale transformations including Cargill’s Tartan Program, an ERP technology, data, and process overhaul for the company, from 2010 to 2012.

Prior to joining Cargill, David was Vice President at Bankers Trust Company where he spent nine years in Chicago, Dallas and New York doing fixed income and financial derivative product sales as well as managing sales teams.

David currently is an advisor to Proterra Investment Partners and sits on two of their portfolio company boards: Willamette Egg Farms and MyLand. He also serves on the board of directors for the J.F. Brennan Company in La Crosse, WI and the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, where he is the Chair for the finance committee and a member of the investment committee. David is also a trustee for the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, NC.

His prior board experiences include Board Chair for Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities, Simpson Housing Services and Voyageur Outward Bound School.

David graduated from Colorado College in 1982 with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. He currently resides in Deephaven, Minnesota with his wife Margie. They have three grown children, one son-in-law, one daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren.
