Support priority populations in North America with renewable energy
3Degrees’ Community Action Portfolio (CAP) is a new category of RECs that fund community-focused organizations bringing new renewable energy projects to priority populations, enabling corporate buyers to drive a deeper impact and help advance a just energy transition. 3Degrees partners with suppliers that develop small-scale renewable energy projects in communities that are historically underserved by the broader energy transition. In most cases, this work provides rooftop solar to populations who have limited access to reliable energy services or economic challenges that prevent access to ordinary commercial renewable energy offerings.
Through CAP, 3Degrees provides firm, long-term REC purchase commitments to these suppliers, creating a stable revenue stream that can be reinvested to expand program services, lower customer prices, support system owners, and fill funding gaps not covered by government incentives and concessionary capital.
How CAP advances a just energy transition
- Builds partnerships with on-the-ground suppliers, typically organizations focused on rooftop solar or solar plus storage for priority communities
- Creates contracting, and REC data management and delivery infrastructure
- Purchases RECs to provide immediate funding to suppliers
- Purchases the RECs from 3Degrees in 10 year offtake agreement
